I haven't always been a "Biker" and by that I mean that I haven't always been part of the bike community. For me, motorbikes have always bike a solitary thing, a way to commute to work and not get stuck in traffic.
Fast forward to my 40s and my teenage son who has started to ride pillion with me asks...
Dad, can we go to a bike night?
Well, what an absolute eye opener, what a lovely bunch of people, and now I feel privileged to be able to call some one the my friends. Over the past 12 months I have tried to give back to the bike community to show my appreciation for how George and I were welcome and embraced by it.
Not only do the people in the bike community look after each other, but they do so much for other people too.
Do you know what a blood biker is? If not, check out the video below to discover that they are all volunteers. Retired or on their days off, bikers do so much for Charity.
Ever seen the Ring of Red or an Egg run ? From the early spring you will see groups of bikers, organising charity rides, delivering easter eggs to hospitals. And even in the winter, look out for the toy runs, because the bike community will brave all weathers to put a smile on peoples faces.
One of the things I find an absolute honour, is that I can use the small platform I have to help promote someone's last ride. As a Dad I find it absolutely heart breaking to hear about young lives being cut short, and when families reach out to the bike community to give them a send off, we never let them down.
I always ensure that the families are happy for me to share a video as I think it helps to encourage other bikers to take part even if they don't know the person who's funeral it is. Below are a few videos of how we pay our respects.
